Zachary’s Pastry shoppe goes back long before 2004, however. In 1990, a young newlywed couple, Beckie and Dan Raymond, started their journey together by opening up a little shoppe in north Albany. Both skilled and trained in pastry arts, they were excited to have a place of their own. One of their first tasks, of course, was deciding on a name for the business. While they didn’t have any kids of their own yet, they always thought they might name their first baby Zachary, and the shoppe became their first baby. Zachary’s Pastry Shoppe was born. While they did go on to have three boys, none of them bore the namesake after all. That little shop on Broadway did close its doors, in the fall of 1995, so that Beckie and Dan could spend more time raising their sons. Once the boys were older, they rekindled that dream, and reopened in East Greenbush, with two of Beckie’s sisters, Nancy and Connie, at their side contributing skills from their careers in finance and technology.
